Sim Putting Wars: GOLF+ MR vs. Foresight PuttView
Two very different solutions to simulator golf’s biggest unsolved problem. One costs $500. The other costs $20,000. Both ship in 2026.
The Problem That Wouldn’t Die
We’ve been writing about the simulator putting gap since day one. Forty percent of your strokes happen on the green. Most simulators can’t track them. Radar units can’t read putts under 5 mph. Camera units are inconsistent. The result: 80% of sim owners eventually switch to auto-putt, which means you’re not practicing the most important part of your game.
For years, the only “solutions” were workarounds. Buy an ExPutt. Get a PuttOut mat. Practice putting separately and accept that your sim rounds are incomplete.
That’s changing. In the span of a few weeks, two radically different solutions have emerged — one from the high end (Foresight’s $20K PuttView Edition) and one from the completely unexpected direction (GOLF+ Mixed Reality Putting on a Quest headset, no launch monitor required).
They couldn’t be more different. But they’re both real. And they both work.
Solution 1: Foresight SIM IN A BOX PuttView Edition (~$20,000)
What It Is
Foresight’s existing SIM IN A BOX package — GC3S launch monitor, enclosure, screen, projector, turf, software — with an integrated PuttView CNC-milled putting green bolted on. The PuttView surface uses augmented reality projection to show your line, the break, and the distance from your ball position. When your approach shot lands on the green in FSX Play, the system auto-transitions to the putting surface.
The Experience
You hit your approach shot. The ball lands on the sim screen. FSX Play automatically detects you’ve reached the green, and the PuttView surface lights up with an AR-projected line showing your exact putt — the same line the course data says you’d have. You walk over, line up your real putt on a real green, and sink it into a real cup. The camera tracks it. The software registers it. Next hole.
The green is CNC-milled from the actual course data, so the contours, slopes, and stimp speed match the virtual course. Up to six real cups let the system move you around the green for different putt lengths without you having to reset anything.
The Catch
It’s ~$20,000. That’s the price of the full SIM IN A BOX package with the PuttView integration. It requires dedicated floor space — you need room for the hitting area plus the putting surface. This is for the buyer who is building a no-compromise sim room and putting the same priority on their short game as their full swing.
Foresight announced the PuttView partnership earlier this month. The SIM IN A BOX PuttView Edition is the first complete product from that partnership.
Solution 2: GOLF+ Mixed Reality Putting (~$500)
What It Is
GOLF+ — the VR golf game with 2M+ players — is launching Mixed Reality Putting as part of its upcoming GOLF+ Sim platform. The Quest 3/3S/Pro headset’s built-in passthrough cameras track a real putter and a real ball on any flat surface. No launch monitor. No sensors. No stickers. Just the headset and your putter.
The Experience
Put on the Quest. Look down through passthrough mode and see your real hands, real putter, and real ball on your real floor or putting mat. The headset overlays a virtual green contour, showing the line and break. You putt for real. The cameras track the ball and register the result.
It’s public beta right now on App Lab. Full launch is August 2026. It’s part of GOLF+ Sim, the company’s non-VR sim software platform also launching late 2026. The idea is that GOLF+ Sim handles the full-swing portion (with a launch monitor) and GOLF+ MR Putting handles the green — all in one ecosystem.
The Catch
You need a Quest headset ($300-500 depending on model) and a willingness to wear it while putting. Some golfers hate wearing a headset during practice. Others won’t care. The putting surface is your floor — it’s not a CNC-milled green. The visual overlay creates the contour, but the physical feel is whatever surface you’re standing on.
Also: GOLF+ Sim (the full-swing companion) isn’t out yet. For now, GOLF+ MR Putting is standalone putting practice and can integrate into GOLF+ VR rounds. The full ecosystem play comes later this year.

The Real Question: Which One Makes You a Better Putter?
The Foresight PuttView Edition gives you the closest thing to real green reading and putting available in any home setup. The CNC-milled surface matches the course data. The AR projection shows you the line. You’re reading a real break on a real green. That transfers to the course directly.
GOLF+ MR Putting can’t match the physical fidelity. But it has a different advantage: it removes the friction. You can practice putting in your living room in 30 seconds — put on the headset, grab a putter, and go. No warm-up. No setup. No launch monitor. The more often you practice, the better you get. And at $500, the barrier to entry is essentially zero.
One is about maximum fidelity. The other is about maximum accessibility.
What This Means for Sim Golf
The timing is not a coincidence. The simulator putting gap has been the #1 complaint in every forum, every survey, and every buyer’s guide for the last five years. Two solutions arriving in the same window means the industry finally recognizes this as a market, not a niche.
Foresight is betting that serious sim buyers will pay for the complete solution. GOLF+ is betting that the Quest installed base (tens of millions of headsets) will make putting practice frictionless enough that people actually do it.
Both bets can be right. The sim market is big enough for a $20K commercial solution and a $500 consumer solution.
For the home sim owner, the choice is straightforward: if you’re building a dedicated sim room and budget isn’t your primary constraint, the Foresight PuttView Edition is the best putting experience money can buy. If you already own a Quest or want to try putting practice without committing to sim hardware, GOLF+ MR Putting is a no-brainer.
Either way, 2026 is the year simulator putting stopped being a joke.
