It’s Trackman’s answer to the question “What if we made a Trackman for home users?” — but the answer is still a $7,995 product that needs 15 feet of indoor ball flight and doesn’t natively support the most popular simulator software on the market.

Buy this if:

Radar-Camera Hybrid: The Best of Both Worlds

The Trackman iO is not a pure radar system like the Trackman 4, nor a pure camera system like the GC3. It’s a hybrid — and that’s the smartest thing about it.

The radar component handles the core ball-flight tracking: speed, launch angle, spin, axis, and trajectory. This is the same Doppler radar technology that Trackman has been refining for 20+ years. It’s the technology that powers every PGA Tour broadcast, every Open Championship, and every Trackman 4 at 5,000 facilities worldwide.

The camera component handles the club delivery data: club path, face angle, attack angle, and dynamic loft. This is the piece that pure radar systems struggle with indoors. By adding optical tracking, the iO captures club data with a level of precision that the Mevo+ and R10 simply cannot match in an indoor environment.

The result is a system that delivers Trackman 4-level accuracy in 15+ parameters at less than half the price.

100-Shot Test: Trackman iO vs GCQuad

We tested the Trackman iO against a Foresight GCQuad reference unit across 100 shots — 10 shots each with driver, 3-wood, 5-iron, 7-iron, 9-iron, pitching wedge, sand wedge, 56-degree, 60-degree, and putter.

The iO tracked within 1-2% of the GCQuad across every parameter. For a radar-hybrid system at $7,995, this is genuinely impressive. The spin axis and launch direction readings were slightly more variable than the GCQuad on mishits (off-center strikes showed 2-3% variance vs 1-2% on the GCQuad), but for 95% of shots, the data was indistinguishable.

Indoor Performance: The 15-Foot Reality

The iO’s biggest limitation is the same as every radar-based launch monitor: it needs ball flight.

Trackman recommends a minimum of 15 feet (4.6 meters) from the unit to the impact screen. In our testing, we found that 12 feet was usable for most parameters (ball speed, launch angle, club data), but spin rate and spin axis readings became unreliable below 10 feet.

This means the iO requires a minimum room depth of about 18-20 feet (15 feet of ball flight plus your stance and backswing). That’s a significantly larger room requirement than the Uneekor Eye Mini Lite (which needs about 10 feet of ceiling height but no ball flight depth) or the Foresight GC3 (which needs about 8 feet of depth).

If you have the space, the iO’s indoor tracking is excellent — the best of any radar-based system we’ve tested. But the space requirement is a hard filter that eliminates many home sim builders.

Software and Ecosystem: The Trackman Advantage

Trackman Performance Studio ($499/year)

The iO comes with Trackman Virtual Golf (their simulator software, $199/year) and requires a subscription to Trackman Performance Studio ($499/year) for full data analysis. That’s $698/year in software costs — significantly more than GSPro’s $249/year or E6 Connect’s $299/year.

The Performance Studio is the best practice and analysis software in the industry. Period. The data visualization, session tracking, A/B comparison, and club fitting tools are unmatched. If you’re a teaching pro or a data-obsessed golfer, this software is worth the subscription cost.

But if you just want to play rounds of golf on a simulator, the $698/year is hard to justify when GSPro offers 1,000+ courses for $249/year.

The GSPro Problem

Here’s the elephant in the room: the iO does not natively support GSPro.

There is a third-party connector available, but it’s not officially supported, and Trackman has made no move to add GSPro compatibility. This is a strategic decision — Trackman wants you using Trackman Virtual Golf and the Performance Studio ecosystem.

For the home simulator market, where GSPro is the dominant software platform with 1,000+ courses and 50+ launch monitor compatibilities, this is a significant limitation. The Eye Mini Lite ($3,999) and GC3 ($5,249) both work natively with GSPro. The iO does not.

This alone will push many buyers toward camera-based alternatives.

Trackman Virtual Golf

Trackman Virtual Golf has about 30 officially licensed courses, including some of the best in the world: St. Andrews, Pebble Beach, Augusta National, Pine Valley, and others. The course quality is excellent — LiDAR-scanned, beautifully rendered, and true to the real course.

But 30 courses is a fraction of GSPro’s 1,000+. For sim golfers who play variety, this is a hard limit.
