Can You Play Sheshan International on GOLFZON Wave? Here’s How
Sheshan International is the course that brought the WGC to China. From 2009 to 2019, it hosted the WGC-HSBC Champions — the only World Golf Championships event in Asia. Phil Mickelson won there. What Sheshan Actually Looks Like on GOLFZON
Sheshan International is a tree-lined parkland course set in the foothills of Shanghai’s Sheshan Mountain. The course plays through valleys and over ridges, with the mountain visible from several holes.
On GOLFZON Wave, the course is rendered accurately. The elevation changes are there — Sheshan is a walker’s course with significant climbs and drops. The bunkers are correctly placed. The greens have the right contours.
The course is defined by its closing stretch. The 16th is a long par 4 that plays uphill to a green protected by bunkers. The 17th is a short par 4 where the aggressive play can set up a birdie. The 18th is a dogleg left par 5 with water on the left side of the green. On GOLFZON, this closing stretch plays correctly. The 18th in particular rewards a smart approach over a hero shot.
The Key Features
Tree-lined fairways. Sheshan is a tight course. The trees are everywhere. On GOLFZON, the tree rendering is solid — you can see the tree lines from the tee and plan your shot accordingly. Hit driver on every hole and you’ll find trouble. Pick your spots.
Elevation changes. Sheshan climbs and drops more than most Chinese courses. The walk from the 15th green to the 16th tee is one of the steepest on the Asian Tour. On GOLFZON, the elevation changes affect club selection. A 150-yard shot uphill plays 160-165. A downhill shot plays shorter.
Water on the back nine. The 12th and 18th both have water in play. The 18th’s water on the left forces a decision off the tee — challenge it with driver for a chance at reaching in two, or lay up short and play the hole as a three-shot par 5. GOLFZON’s water rendering is good enough that you can see the reflection and judge the carry.
How It Compares to the Famous Courses
Sheshan is not Pebble Beach. It’s not St Andrews. It’s a solid top-100 Asian course that most American golfers have never heard of, and the reason to play it is variety.
If you’ve played the same 10 US courses a hundred times each, Sheshan offers something different. The tree-lined layout, the subtle elevation changes, the cultural novelty — it’s a break from the expected.
GOLFZON’s library has dozens of courses like this. Sheshan is not the best of them (that’s Nine Bridges on Jeju Island or Kawana Fuji in Japan). But it’s one of the most accessible for American audiences who recognize the WGC-HSBC name.
Is It Worth Playing?
Play it for the novelty. Play it because you’ve always wondered what the WGC-HSBC course looks like. Play it because it’s one of the few courses in China available on sim golf.
But don’t expect to make it your go-to course. Sheshan is a good course that’s fun to explore. It’s not a destination course that you’ll play every week. The layout is solid but not spectacular. The closing stretch is strong. The opening holes are less memorable.
For GOLFZON WAVE owners who want to explore the full depth of GOLFZON’s course library, Sheshan is worth a few rounds. Just don’t expect it to replace Pebble Beach or St Andrews in your rotation.
What I’d Change
The visual atmosphere could be more distinctive. Sheshan’s setting in the Shanghai foothills is unique, but the GOLFZON version doesn’t fully capture the sense of place. The mountain background, the Chinese architecture, the subtropical vegetation — these are present but not emphasized. It’s a small complaint for a course that’s essentially a bonus in an already deep library.

Avoid. Read the article and draw your own conclusions. Sheshan International is a solid Asian course that GOLFZON Wave owners should try for variety. It’s not a must-play, but it’s a welcome break from the standard US course rotation. If you own a WAVE and want to explore GOLFZON’s Asian library, start with Nine Bridges or Kawana Fuji first.
