The Short Answer
The Old Course at St Andrews is available on GOLF+ VR. Here is the quality assessment, how to access it, and whether the VR version does the Home of.
Yes, the Old Course at St Andrews is available on GOLF+ VR. You can access it as individual DLC for about $10 or through the GOLF+ Pass subscription. The VR version captures the scale and history of the Old Course better than any screen-based sim because you actually stand on the first tee and look down the fairway in three dimensions.
St Andrews is ranked No. 41 in our course database, but that number is misleading. The Old Course is the Home of Golf. It is the course every golfer wants to play at least once. GOLF+ gives you the next best thing.
Course Quality Assessment
The team at GOLF+ did serious work on this one. The Swilcan Bridge is there. The Valley of Sin is there. Hell Bunker is there and it is every bit as menacing in VR as it is in real life. The double greens are accurately modeled, which matters more than most players realize — hitting into a massive shared green from 180 yards requires different strategy than a standard single green.
The VR advantage on St Andrews is profound because the Old Course is a ground-game course. In a screen-based sim, judging fairway contours from a flat monitor is difficult. In VR, you can see the undulations. You can see where the ball should land versus where it will roll out. The depth perception makes the strategic decisions — when to go for the green, when to lay back, which line to take off the tee — feel real.
The 17th hole, the Road Hole, plays perfectly in VR. The angle off the tee, the OB right, the hotel on the left, the road behind the green — it is all there. You will make the same bad decisions pros make, just with a VR controller instead of a real club.
The physics trade-off applies here the same as every GOLF+ course. The controller swing is an approximation. You will not get the ground-truth spin numbers you would from a launch monitor. But for St Andrews, the immersion penalty for that trade-off is smaller because so much of the course is about reading the ground and visualizing the shot.
How to Access
Individual DLC ($10-12): Purchase St Andrews Old Course standalone on the Meta Quest Store.
GOLF+ Pass ($9.99/month): Full access to St Andrews plus all other courses on the platform. This is the play if you want more than a couple courses.
How It Compares to Other Platforms
The GSPro version of St Andrews is the most accurate for swing data. The E6 Connect version has the best visuals on a traditional sim setup. The GOLF+ version has the most immersion.
Which one wins depends on what you care about. If you want to practice for a real round, GSPro or E6 with a launch monitor. If you want to feel like you are walking the Old Course, GOLF+.
