The Famous Courses: Where to Find Them, How Good They Are
Pebble Beach
This is the crown jewel of Awesome Golf’s course library. Pebble Beach on an iPad looks better than you think it will. The ocean holes along the Pacific coast — 7, 8, 9, 10 — are rendered with enough detail that you will feel the elevation change and the coastal wind. The greens are small and demanding, which is the whole point of Pebble Beach. In sim golf, where you are already fighting the lack of depth perception, small greens are a real test. You will miss greens you think you hit. You will three-putt from places you did not know you could three-putt from.
Awesome Golf’s version is a licensed LIDAR build. That means the elevation data is real. The fairway contours are real. The way your ball bounces on the 18th fairway — that is the actual slope of Pebble Beach’s 18th fairway.
Play it with firm greens and medium wind. Pebble without wind is just another pretty course.
St Andrews Old Course
St Andrews is harder to get right in a simulator than any other famous course. The double greens are enormous. The shared fairways do not make sense on a rectangular screen. The wind is the whole defense of the course.
Awesome Golf’s version handles it well. The Road Hole (17) is the standout — the green complex is diabolical, the out-of-bounds is right there, and the angle into the pin forces you to make a decision that will probably be wrong.
The Valley of Sin on 18 is present and accounted for. You can putt from the front of the green and watch your ball roll back to your feet. That is the St Andrews experience.
Play it in the wind. Calm St Andrews is not St Andrews.
TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course)
Sawgrass on Awesome Golf is about as good as a mobile sim version of this course gets.
The island green on 17 is the headline, obviously. The version in Awesome Golf gives you the right look — the water is there, the green looks small from the tee, and the wind direction matters more than you want it to. You will hit it in the water. Everyone does.
But the real story with Sawgrass is the rest of the course. The front nine winds through trees. The back nine opens up into the water holes. The greens are subtle — they break in directions you do not expect until you have played the course a few times. Awesome Golf’s LIDAR data captures that.
Play it from the tournament tees. Sawgrass from the forward tees is a pitch-and-putt. From the tips, it is a nervy round of golf where every hole asks a question.
Banff Springs
Banff Springs is the hidden famous course that most sim golfers do not know about. It is a Stanley Thompson masterpiece in the Canadian Rockies. On Awesome Golf, it is one of the best-looking courses in the library.
The mountain backdrops are striking. The elevation changes are dramatic. The course winds through valleys and along rivers. It is beautiful in a way that translates well to sim golf because the views are part of the experience.

Doral Blue Monster
The Blue Monster at Doral has hosted WGC events, PGA Tour events, and more. It is a classic Florida track — long, windy, and full of water.
On Awesome Golf, it is surprisingly good. The water hazards are everywhere. The 18th hole is a brute — long par 4, water down the left, water guarding the green. You will bail out right and have a 40-foot bunker shot. That is the Doral experience.
The course plays firm and fast, which is how Florida golf should feel. The wind is a real factor. Play it on a breezy day and you will understand why the pros hate this course.
Wentworth West
Wentworth is the home of the BMW PGA Championship on the DP World Tour. The West Course is the championship layout — tree-lined, demanding, classic English parkland.
On Awesome Golf, Wentworth West is a standout. The course routing is accurate, the trees frame every hole properly, and the greens are subtly tricky. The famous 18th hole — a long par 5 with water down the right and a green protected by the lake — plays well in the sim.
Wentworth is a nice change of pace if you have been playing nothing but American resort courses. It asks different questions. Bump-and-run shots. Iron play off the tee. Patience.
Emirates Majlis
The Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club is the home of the Dubai Desert Classic. It is a desert course — wide fairways, palm trees, water hazards, and greens that run fast.
On Awesome Golf, it is visually distinctive because it does not look like any other course in the library. The desert landscape, the palm tree silhouettes, the contrast between green fairways and brown desert — it makes for a memorable round.
The golf is good, too. The course demands accuracy more than length. The par-3s are strong. The finishing stretch is demanding. If you want to play something that does not look like a generic American course, this is your pick.
Sunningdale Heath
Sunningdale Heath is a 9-hole course in England that plays like a little gem. It is short, quirky, and fun. On Awesome Golf, it is a great choice when you want a quick round or you are introducing someone to sim golf.
The heathland terrain, the bunkering, the fast-running fairways — it captures the English heathland experience in a compact package. Play it with a friend and play two balls each.
Mission Hills Blackstone
This is the Blackstone course at Mission Hills on Jeju Island in Korea — one of the top-rated courses in Asia. On Awesome Golf, it is a visually impressive course with dramatic coastal holes, volcanic rock features, and a routing that takes you along the ocean and back inland.
The course ranks in the top 100 worldwide. If you want to play something the American golf media never talks about, this is worth queuing up.
Courses to Approach with Caution
Awesome Golf does not have bad courses. That is the advantage of a curated library over a community platform. But some courses are better than others.
Longleaf — Fine course. Nothing special. If you have played the other courses on this list and want something different, Longleaf is adequate. But it will not be your favorite.
Isla Verde (9-hole) — This is a short 9-hole course that was added in an early update. It is fine for a quick practice round. Do not make it your main course.
The Original 9-hole courses — When Awesome Golf first launched, it had two 9-hole courses that served as proof-of-concept. They are still in the library. They are functional. They are not the reason you bought Awesome Golf.
How the Course Library Works
Awesome Golf adds courses through regular app updates. You do not need to download anything manually — the courses come with the app. When a new course drops, it appears in your course selection screen automatically.
The library is roughly 100 courses as of mid-2026. Awesome Golf’s developer (Great Detail Ltd) adds courses periodically. They have been adding 3-5 courses per year, usually announced in the App Store release notes.
There is no course designer. There is no community content. You get what they give you. That is the trade-off for not having to sort through 150,000 courses to find one worth playing.
How to Access Courses
Every course on Awesome Golf is included with your $199/year subscription. There are no tiered plans. There is no “premium course pack” for an extra hundred bucks. You pay $199, you get all 100 courses.
To switch courses, open the app from the main menu, select “Virtual Golf,” and browse the course list. Courses are arranged alphabetically. There is no search bar, but with 100 courses you do not need one. Scroll, pick, play.
