The Short Answer
Winged Foot (West Course) on Awesome Golf — the U.S. Open gauntlet with the brutal rough and tiny greens is in the 100-course library.
Can You Play Winged Foot on Awesome Golf? Here’s How
Winged Foot is a course designed to punish you. A.W. Tillinghast built it with the explicit goal of making the best players in the world look average. The West Course has hosted five U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship. It is not friendly. It is not fun in the traditional sense. It is a test.
Awesome Golf includes Winged Foot West in the standard library. No premium tier. No add-on purchase. You pay $199 a year, you get the course.
How It Plays on Awesome Golf
The rough is the headline. Winged Foot’s rough is legendary — thick, deep, and positioned so that missing a fairway by five yards means you are playing a punch-out. On Awesome Golf, the rough penalty is modeled. A ball in the rough produces reduced spin and lower trajectory. The recovery shot plays differently than a fairway shot. It is not as punishing as the 6-inch U.S. Open rough at Winged Foot, but the penalty is there.
The greens are the second feature. Winged Foot’s greens are small, elevated, and sloped. Tillinghast designed them to reject poorly struck approach shots. On Awesome Golf, the LIDAR data captures the crowned shapes. A wedge that lands a few feet offline on the wrong side of the slope rolls away from the pin. The putting is challenging in the same way that real Winged Foot putting is challenging — the surfaces are subtle, not severe.
The 18th hole is the money. The 450-yard par 4 with the clubhouse behind the green and the fairway that narrows into a funnel is one of the great finishing holes in American golf. On Awesome Golf, the hole plays correctly. The drive must carry the left fairway bunker. The approach is to a green that slopes away from the player. A par is a good score.
How to Access It
Open Awesome Golf on your iPad. Select Virtual Golf. Browse the course list for “Winged Foot West Course.” Set the rough to maximum penalty. Set greens to firm. Play from the championship tees and prepare to shoot 85.
The Value
Winged Foot is a premium course on most sim platforms. On GSPro, it is a community build that requires an SGT subscription. On E6, it is a premium add-on. On Awesome Golf, it is included in the $199 annual fee. That is the core value proposition of the platform — the library is curated, the courses are licensed, and there is no per-course pricing.
The visual fidelity is not GSPro quality. Winged Foot on an iPad is a softer, lower-resolution experience than Winged Foot on a gaming PC. But the course plays correctly, the hazards are in the right places, and the 18th hole still makes you nervous.
If you own an Awesome Golf subscription, play Winged Foot. It is one of the most important courses in the library and it costs you nothing extra.
