But here’s the problem: the ball was struck high on the clubface, not in the center. The energy transfer was poor. The ball speed is lower.
The feel: pure. It felt like you flushed it. The mat didn’t punish you like grass would. The data: the launch monitor reads 5-8 MPH less ball speed and gives you a 130-yard shot instead of 145. The result: “I hit that perfectly! This machine is garbage!”
The machine says: “You hit that fat. The mat just didn’t tell you.”
The fix: Buy a quality mat with a foam or gel layer underneath that simulates the feel of taking a divot — the Fiberbuilt Studio mat and the SIGPRO Softy are the gold standards.
