Here’s how it happened and what you actually get at each level.

The Four Tiers of Overhead in 2026

Tier 1: Budget Entry ($3,000)

The Uneekor QED ($2,999) is the cheapest overhead launch monitor that doesn’t feel like a compromise. It’s a single-camera ceiling-mounted system that tracks ball speed, launch angle, spin rate, and basic club data. It requires no club stickers, works with any ball, and integrates with GSPro, E6, and TGC 2019. The hitting zone is smaller than the more expensive Uneekors, and club data quality drops off on off-center strikes. But the core overhead workflow is there: mount it once, calibrate it, and it’s always ready.

This is the most interesting tier in 2026. Three units are fighting for this spot:

VTrack is a South Korean company (Laon Swingcraft) that sold 20,000+ units in Asia before launching in the US. The 8.5-foot ceiling minimum is a big deal — it opens overhead to rooms that the Uneekor and ProTee units can’t handle.

Uneekor EYE XR ($5,499): Three IR cameras, Dimple Optix technology (reads any ball — no stickers or markings), 19 data points, full club data including path and face angle. The EYE XR is Uneekor’s answer to “I want overhead but I don’t need the XO2’s giant hitting zone.” The trade-off is a smaller hitting zone (13.7“ x 11.8“) than the N1 or VTrack. Foresight Falcon ($15,000-$16,000): Quadrascopic four-camera system, 59“ x 28“ ball hitting zone, 11“ x 11“ club zone. The Falcon is the Foresight GCQuad mounted to your ceiling. It’s the most accurate overhead system on the market. It’s also $15,000 — more than some people’s entire sim budget.

What Actually Changed?

Three things happened:

1. Uneekor broke the price floor. The QED at $2,999 proved that overhead could be done at a price point that competes with mid-range floor units. Before the QED, the cheapest overhead was the EYE XO at $8,000. The QED forced every other manufacturer to either compete on price or justify their premium.

2. Asian manufacturers entered the US market. NVISAGE and VTrack are both Korean companies that built their businesses in Asia’s massive indoor golf market. South Korea has more indoor golf sims per capita than any country on earth. Those companies learned how to build reliable overhead systems at scale, then brought that manufacturing efficiency to the US. The N1 and VTrack are priced at $5,000 because their Korean parent companies have been building overhead systems for a decade.

3. The “no subscription” model became a competitive weapon. The ProTee VX and VTrack both ship with free software and no subscription fees. That’s a direct challenge to Uneekor’s tiered pricing model (Pro/Champion/Ultimate at $100-$300/year). In a market where every launch monitor is trying to annual-recurring-revenue you, the no-subscription overhead units stand out.

The Real Question: Should You Buy Overhead?

Overhead launch monitors are never the “best value” option on paper. You can get a Bushnell Launch Pro ($2,500) or a SkyTrak+ ($2,000) that deliver comparable accuracy for less money and zero permanent installation. The Garmin R10 ($500) gives you 80% of the data for a sixth of the price.

But value isn’t the only variable. Overhead systems solve specific problems that floor units can’t:

The workflow advantage. An overhead monitor is always ready. You walk in, put a ball down, and swing. No pulling the unit out of a case. No checking alignment. No worrying about whether the dog bumped it since last session. For daily practice, this friction reduction is real. The Uneekor QED at $3,000 is $500 more than a SkyTrak+. But if you use it 5 days a week, that $500 pays for itself in annoyance saved within three months.

The mixed-handed household. If you have right-handed and left-handed golfers in the same house, overhead is the right answer. The “minimum ceiling height” specs on overhead units aren’t marketing suggestions — they’re hard requirements. The camera needs a certain angle to see the ball and club. If the ceiling is too low, the camera can’t see enough.

The Takeaway

The overhead market in 2026 is the most interesting it’s ever been. You can now buy a ceiling-mounted system for $3,000 — less than a SkyTrak+. The units at $5,000 (N1, VTrack, EYE XR) are genuinely good, with features that were only available at $10K+ two years ago. And the premium tier ($10K+) is still there if you want the best.

But the decision isn’t about price. It’s about whether you want a permanent room. If you’re building a dedicated sim space that won’t change for years, overhead is worth the premium. The daily workflow advantage is real. The safety is real. The lefty/righty convenience is real.

If you’re building in a garage that might need to become a parking spot again, or a basement with 8-foot ceilings, or a multi-purpose room that doubles as a home gym — buy a floor unit. The Bushnell Launch Pro and SkyTrak+ are excellent. The Garmin R10 is a bargain. You don’t need overhead.

The revolution is that you now have a choice. A year ago, overhead was a $10K commitment or nothing. Now it’s a $3K to $16K spectrum. The market did what markets do when competition arrives: prices dropped, options multiplied, and the buyer wins.
