Brand Watch: Five Iron Golf Goes Global, Toptracer Powers The Open, and Foresight Lands in Madrid

While last week’s blockbuster Versant-Full Swing acquisition dominated headlines, a wave of venue-expansion news across the golf simulator industry signals that the real action is happening on the ground — in new facilities, international markets, and major championship partnerships.

Here’s what you need to know about the venue and technology expansion stories shaping the second half of July.

1. Five Iron Golf Expands to Saudi Arabia and Spain — Trackman and GOLFZON Power New Locations

Five Iron Golf, the fastest-growing indoor golf entertainment chain in North America, has opened its first locations in Saudi Arabia and continental Europe, marking a major step in its international rollout.

Riyadh — PIF Tower, King Abdullah Financial District

Opened April 24, the 11-bay facility in Riyadh is a landmark: it’s the first Five Iron location in the Middle East and features a mix of Trackman and GOLFZON simulators under one roof — an unusual dual-platform approach that lets guests choose between Trackman’s pro-grade simulation and GOLFZON’s entertainment-focused experience.

Developed in partnership with Golf Saudi, the venue includes Callaway Tour Fitting, professional coaching, and structured programming (leagues, clinics, junior instruction). Five Iron CEO Jared Solomon called it “one of the most exciting growth opportunities in global golf today.”

Valencia — First Continental European Location

Opened May 4, the 10,700-square-foot Valencia venue features eight Trackman-powered golf simulators alongside F1 racing simulators, VR darts, and multisport games — a hybrid entertainment model that goes well beyond traditional golf. A full-service bar and kitchen anchors the venue, with capacity for up to 200 guests.

Valencia is the first of a 10-site franchise deal for Spain and Portugal, led by entrepreneurs Victor Amarnani and Sunil Mahtani. Madrid is next.

The Bigger Picture

Five Iron now operates 40+ sites globally with plans for 60 new venues in the coming years. The company has also signed a 10-site franchise deal for the UK, with the first venue due to open at Broadgate Campus in London later this year. Backed by North Castle Partners, Callaway Golf, and Enlightened Hospitality Investments, Five Iron is rapidly becoming the dominant global brand in indoor golf entertainment.

Brand impact: Trackman’s inclusion in the Riyadh location (alongside GOLFZON) is noteworthy — it signals that even in entertainment-focused venues, pro-grade launch monitor data is valued by the Middle Eastern market. For GOLFZON, the partnership provides a North American-expansion beachhead through Five Iron’s existing US venues.

2. Toptracer Partners with R&A for The 154th Open — Royal Birkdale Goes Virtual

Toptracer, the range-technology giant owned by Topgolf Callaway Brands, has announced a major partnership with The R&A for The 154th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale (July 13-19).

What’s New

On-Site Activation

Toptracer’s presence at Royal Birkdale is unprecedented in scale:

Brand impact: Toptracer’s increasing integration with The Open — from broadcast tracing to on-site fan engagement to virtual course play — demonstrates how simulator technology is becoming a core part of major championship experiences. For Topgolf Callaway, this represents a powerful software/content play that extends well beyond the driving range.

3. Foresight Sports Falcon Powers Premium Madrid Venue — ‘The 19th’

Foresight Sports Europe has delivered a premium indoor golf installation in Madrid at The 19th, a high-end venue that blends performance simulation with refined hospitality.

The Installation

Founder Pablo de la Peña said Foresight was “the only technology that truly matched the level of quality, precision, and credibility we wanted.” Carlos Cerdán, Foresight Sports Europe’s Spain sales representative, noted that “installations like The 19th demonstrate how thoughtfully designed spaces, supported by best-in-class technology, can transform the way the game is played and experienced in urban environments.”

Brand impact: This installation showcases Foresight’s Falcon ceiling-mount unit in a European context, reinforcing the brand’s push beyond its traditional US market. The Falcon (positioned above the GCQuad/GC3 for commercial settings) is Foresight’s answer to Uneekor’s overhead EYE XO line and Trackman’s facility installations.

4. Ruff Golf Expands to UK — Acquires Bunker Indoor Golf

Ruff Golf, the European indoor golf franchise operator with 21 venues, has entered the UK market by integrating Bunker Indoor Golf’s two Midlands-based venues (Nottingham and Heanor) into its network.

The acquired businesses are operated by Ultima Enterprise Ltd, led by entrepreneurs Adam Grace, Luke Robinson, Adam Dixon, and Mel Parker, who will become Ruff’s Master Franchise partner for the Midlands region.

Ruff CEO Alex Bengtsson said the partnership reflects a broader trend: “More established operators see the value of joining a larger network, where we can build stronger brands, better customer experiences, and more profitable venues together.”

Brand impact: Ruff’s UK entry is a signal that the European indoor golf market is consolidating. As chains like Ruff (21 venues) and Five Iron Golf (40+ venues) scale up, independent operators are increasingly seeking franchise partnerships for brand power and operational efficiencies.

Garmin has published a new Trends in Golf Data Report, drawing insights from the Garmin Golf app user base worldwide.

Key takeaways include rising participation among younger golfers, measurable improvement across nearly every shot category, and increased crossover between golf and other athletic activities tracked on Garmin devices. While Garmin did not release specific numbers publicly, the report underscores the company’s strategy of leveraging its wearables ecosystem (watches, handhelds, laser rangefinders, and the R50/R10 launch monitors) to create a complete digital golf experience.

Brand impact: Garmin’s data play is unique among simulator brands — no other launch monitor manufacturer also sells fitness wearables, smartwatches, and GPS devices. The Garmin Golf app acts as a hub connecting the R50 floor-based simulator, the R10 portable launch monitor, Approach watches, and CT10 club sensors. This ecosystem approach is Garmin’s key differentiator against Rapsodo (MLM2PRO, $599) and SkyTrak (ST MAX, $1,995).

Market Context: The Venue Boom Continues

These five stories share a common thread: the golf simulator industry is shifting from hardware sales to venue-driven experiences. The NGF’s 2025 report documented 8.1 million simulator/screen golf users in the US alone — a 126% increase from five years ago — and the venue side of the market is absorbing that demand.

With only 6.5% of US golf facilities having installed simulators (per NGF), the runway for venue expansion remains enormous — and these brand-specific stories show who’s capitalizing on it.
