Sim Software FAQ

What golf simulator software works without a PC? Garmin Home Tee Hero runs on the Garmin R50’s built-in screen — no computer needed. Awesome Golf runs on iPad and iPhone. WGT Golf works on mobile devices. GOLF+ Sim (coming late 2026) will run on a Quest 3 headset with no PC. Everything else — GSPro, E6 Connect, TGC 2019, FSX — requires a Windows PC with a dedicated graphics card.

Which golf simulator software has the most courses? Home Tee Hero claims over 43,000 courses, but most are auto-generated from GPS data, not hand-crafted. GSPro has 4,000+ community-designed courses, many of them LIDAR-scanned real courses. E6 Connect has about 250 licensed courses. Quality matters more than quantity — a GSPro LIDAR build of your home course beats a GPS-generated version every time.

Is GSPro worth the subscription cost? At $250/year, yes. It’s the most active sim golf community in the world, with thousands of user-created courses dropping weekly, active multiplayer, and regular updates. You’re paying for a constantly growing library, not a static product. The alternative is TGC 2019 at $149 one-time — but you’re locked into a fixed course library that won’t grow.

Can I use my launch monitor with multiple software platforms? Most launch monitors work with at least two platforms. GSPro and E6 Connect are the most compatible — they support almost every major launch monitor. Uneekor and Foresight units have the widest compatibility. Garmin and SkyTrak are more locked down. Check the compatibility matrix for your specific LM.

What’s the best golf simulator software for beginners? Awesome Golf. It runs on iPad, costs $199/year, has a simple interface, and includes fun game modes that make it feel like a video game. It’s the least intimidating entry point. If you outgrow it, move up to GSPro or E6. If you never outgrow it, that’s fine too — you’re still playing real courses on a simulator.

Do I need a gaming PC for golf simulator software? Depends on the software. GSPro needs a PC with a dedicated GPU (GTX 1660 or better). E6 Connect needs similar specs. TGC 2019 is lighter. Home Tee Hero and Awesome Golf don’t need a PC at all — they run on tablet or built-in hardware. See our gaming PC guide for budget builds.

July 2026 Market Update

Quick roundup since this guide first published in June:

GSPro course library keeps growing. The community now sits at 4,000+ LIDAR courses — up from roughly 2,000 a year ago. New course releases are coming weekly, including several formerly exclusive E6 courses that creators have ported over. The Unity 6 migration continues rolling out, bringing improved lighting, weather effects, and course rendering.

Infinite Tees ($19.99/month) is gaining traction in the Unreal Engine 5 space. Their UE5 photorealistic rendering is genuinely impressive — if raw graphics quality is your priority and you’re willing to trade course count for eye candy, this is worth a look.

GOLF+ Sim is still coming. The mixed reality sim platform for Quest headsets is on track for a late 2026 release. Key feature: it runs on a $499 Quest 3 headset with no gaming PC required. If you’ve been holding off on a sim build because you don’t want to buy a $2,000 PC, this could change the equation. We’ll have a full review when it launches.

OpenGolfSim — the open-source, free, no-account, no-subscription GSPro alternative — continues development. Unity 6 based, works with real launch monitors, and costs zero dollars. It’s early-stage but worth watching if you’re building on a tight budget.
